Knowing the zodiac sign of your Moon reveals, among other things, how you instinctively seek security and react to the world around you. In my session, you’ll learn how your Moon sign governs your mind and body, influences the nurturing you crave, and impacts how you move in your relationships.

In astrology, the moon rules the sign of Cancer.  

This past weekend’s new moon in Cancer naturally invites us to draw inward to reflect on our feelings and what gives us a real sense of emotional security. 

My workshop coincides with the Cancerian energy we are experiencing this month making it an ideal time to explore how each of our Moon signs influence our instincts and emotional needs.

The zodiac sign of Cancer is symbolized by a crab. What’s a cooler way to illustrate the concept of inner security than a hermit crab carrying its home on its back?

The key phrase for Cancer is “I Feel.” 

Cancer is the fourth sign of the zodiac.  It is a cardinal, receptive water sign associated with emotion, intuition and the flow of our feelings.  

It symbolizes nurture, orientation toward family, belonging to a family unit, sensitivity, softness, emotional connections, emotional safety and security, comfort food, mothers, women, history, hospitality and home. 

I think hermit crabs are a lovely representation of Cancer because they carry their homes on their backs, but leave the safety of their shells to do things like mate or change shells when they outgrow their existing one. 

The hermit crab has mastered a key to understanding Cancer energy — nurturing and finding security within ourselves and learning to connect with and meet our own needs. 🦀

The house in your birth chart where you have Cancer is linked to the area of your life where you are seeking or where there have been challenges to your sense of security. 

In many instances, I have seen these challenges linked to family, including our obligations and responsibilities to our loved ones.

New Moon in Cancer: Set New Intentions for a More Expansive Inner Security

We are encouraged under the new moon in Cancer to find, cultivate and connect to security within ourselves.

Here are a few ways to develop it:

1. Find a Safe & Secure Physical Space: Cancer is very much about feeling connected to a home and family, but it is also about feeling love and connection to yourself in the midst of what can feel like a turbulent emotional environment. Find a space within your home that is private and where you feel secure.  I go to my bathtub or spend time in my backyard so I can listen to and assess my own feelings and needs.

2. Let Your Feelings Flow & Honor Them Without Fear or Judgment: Once you are in a safe space, be vulnerable and express yourself.  Let the feelings that flow out help to show you the area(s) of your life where you are seeking and building security.

3. Nurture & Love Your Inner Child. One of the ways we can instantly tap into Cancerian energy is by listening to the needs of our inner child and using that information to mother ourselves the way we desire to be mothered.
